So it begins.

On Thursday lunchtime DreadLAX begin their tour season and fly out to compete in the Silesia Cup.  This is the first of 5 tournaments DreadLAX will be attending this year (so far…) and it marks the start of a new and exciting chapter in our history.

The tournament is growing every year with this year being the fourth edition and the biggest so far with 12 men’s teams competing over the weekend and a Women’s tournament of 3 teams on the Sunday.

Having played in the tournament last year and achieved third place we’re aiming to bring back a trophy of a slightly brighter colour this year and we feel we have the squad strong enough to do just that.  However the standard this year looks to be a step up from last year so it looks as though we’re in for a great weekend of lacrosse.  Last year’s event was impeccably run and we have no reason to think this year will be any different.  We were made to feel very welcome at the tournament and the city as a whole and so plan to keep going back as long as they’ll have us.

We were lucky enough to be in town to witness the celebrations as the local football team won the league last year which made for a fantastic evening in town after the tournament concluded on the Sunday.  The town is also a fantastic place to spend a weekend and we booked the weather well for our last visit and had time for an afternoon of sight-seeing and making friends.

DLthirdFollowing the success of the trip last year we organised this years the same way, landing on the Thursday evening to allow an extra night of seeing the town. Hopefully we can meet some of the friends we made last year and get to know the new DreadLAX faces during the Friday before starting the tournament fresh and ready for action on Saturday morning.  The draw has been made and we face our old friends Belgrade Zombies and the newest team to the Polish league, the Spartans in our group.

One of the key parts of any tour, for DreadLAX in particular, is the social aspect and the Silesia Cup delivers very well on that front as well.  Wroclaw is a student town and has as many bars as you would expect for one.  The Polish lacrosse guys and girls made us feel very welcome and I think we all learnt a few new games off the lacrosse pitch.

Keep an eye out for a review of the weekend and of course pictures.

See you in Wroclaw, we’ll bring the dice.
