U17 fesitval gets young players ready for the big time

The U19 World Championships are fast-approaching and teams from across the world are currently in training for what is set to be an incredible ten-day competition.

While the tournament will shine the spotlight on some of the game’s most talented players, it will also provide a great opportunity for younger players to get their first taste of elite level international competition through the U17 Festival.

The festival, named in memory of Kenneth Galluccio – a long term lacrosse player, enthusiast and supporter – will run alongside the main tournament. It will take place over four days – from August 9 to August 12 – and will include teams from many of the main competition’s participating nations.

England are taking over three teams, made up of players selected from the Centex training centres, while Scotland and Wales will also be fielding U17 squads in an attempt to give their younger players an opportunity to compete in their first major international competition.

Despite being marketed as a ‘festival’ tournament, the competition looks set to be fierce and there are sure to be a number of fast-paced games well worth checking out should you happen to be heading to Hannover come August!

Kenneth was an incredibly important part of the lacrosse world, particularly in Germany where he worked tirelessly for nearly two decades in an attempt to improve the standard and reputation of the game.

Working throughout much of Europe, Ken became a well-known face to many players and there is hardly anyone in German lacrosse who doesn’t know his name. Photographer, manager, player, enthusiast, Ken was an vital part of lacrosse throughout Europe and he will be sorely missed by all who had the opportunity to know him.
